BAND BIOS

BUD LIGHT MAIN STAGE - FRIDAY, MAY 8, 2009

Jones
Inspired by old R&B and new funk, Jones formed in 1998. In 2003 the band returned to Texas and revamped their lineup with Blues and Soul influences. Jones is well connected to the Dallas music community and are unafraid to experiment. Often, they surprise audiences by including guest performers on violin, piano, horns, and other instruments. After witnessing a performance it is easy to understand why they are loved by many and respected by all.

Green River Ordinance
Green River Ordinance has toured with bands like Collective Soul, Tonic, Third Eye Blind, Hanson, SisterHazel, Blue October, Simple Plan, and Flickerstick. In 2006 & 2008, they were named Best Artist of the year by the Fort Worth Music Awards. MTV Best on Campus named GRO one of the top twenty college bands in the U.S while Radio Shack selected their song "Piece It Together" to pre-load onto over 500,000 MP3 players. In 2006, Blogcritics.com named them the top unsigned band in the world.

Old 97's
What goes around comes around and at this year's Taste Addison, the Old 97's are ready to celebrate full circle. Formed in Dallas more than 15 years ago, the band is considered the epitome of Texas through its original sound of alternative country, influenced by the sounds of Johnny Cash meets The Beatles meets David Bowie. And with the Old 97's latest project, Blame It On Gravity, the band chose to bring it back home to where it all began by recording in the same Lower Greenville studio that the first of their seven records was laid down. The record has received rave reviews; the best being from that of Randy Newman. "If your work is as good at 50 as it was at 20, you've won the battle," he said. Well, if that is the case, the 97's not only won the battle, but have also proclaimed their own territory in the music scene.

Jack Ingram
No other album you'll hear this year will have a more appropriate title - for Jack Ingram, THIS IS IT. "So much in my career has led up to this next chapter of my career," says the acclaimed Texas-born singer-songwriter. With the singles "Wherever You Are," "Love You," and the remake of Hinder's rock smash "Lips of an Angel," Ingram's career has skyrocketed to the top of the Texas country billboards. While he's a new face to some, he began his career over a decade ago in the hardscrabble honky-tonks and dancehalls of Texas. There he quickly earned the respect of his peers - not to mention his heroes like Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver. Now with "This is It," Ingram is ready for whatever comes his way. "I feel like now is my opportunity to do what I've been working toward for 15 years. I'm fully prepared."

BUD LIGHT MAIN STAGE - SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2009

Russ Hewitt
Blending Latin, jazz and flamenco styles, guitarist Russ Hewitt brews an intoxicating oasis of sound. With an extensive use of exotic scales and a keen sense for composition, Hewitt's evocative instrumental music speaks volumes. A University of North Texas graduate in classical performance and a seasoned studio musician, he is no stranger to the Dallas music scene. As part of acclaimed Texas bands including Whipping Post, and Hollow, Hewitt won both electric and acoustic category in Z-Rock radio's prestigious "guitar slinger" contest.

Tiffany Shea
Tiffany Shea is an award winning American singer-songwriter internationally known for her powerfully structured and emotionally intense songs, as well as her 200+ shows a year that have been reviewed as 'capturing nuclear energy.' Acclaimed by her contemporaries, Shea consistently records albums brimming with original material, including her 13th album since 1997, "Phoenix," released this year. DFW Music Awards have named her Best Acoustic Show, Best Female Vocalist, Best Rock Band, & Best Rock Album, and Buddy Magazine has named her album "Phoenix" one of the best to ever come from an unsigned Texas artist. Her powerful music and compelling shows are reflected in the company she keeps, having been billed with the likes of BB King, Blondie, BareNaked Ladies, Ani DiFranco and Counting Crows.

The Gougers
For The Gougers, it is more important that audiences hear the lyrics of the songs created by the singing/writing team of Shane Walker and Jamie Wilson - poems of vivid imagery, human struggle, subtle social comment, truth - than be concerned with what sort of genre the band’s music fits into. That's because The Gougers' sound takes in most genres, constantly moving in and out of country, rock, folk, roots, or mixing them up, as Walker and Wilson experiment and evolve as songwriters.

Sleeperstar
Sleeperstar is an American pop rock band from Dallas, TX. Formed in July 2007, Sleeperstar draws influence from the 90s and millennial mainstream music. The group's debut EP "To Speak, To Love, To Listen" was released informally in February 2008, and they are currently engaged in the making of their first full length album "Just Another Ghost" due this spring. Whatever its category, the music draws ready comparisons to Coldplay, the Killers, and other popular AAA examples.

T Bird & the Breaks
Eleven members in all, T Bird & the Breaks is a tight-knit unit, who enjoy each other's company and love playing music that connects with their audience. T Bird and the Breaks have headlined at five of the city's best-known venues, placed second in the Best New Band category at the Austin Music Awards during SXSW 2008, and became the second-highest vote-getter and a finalist in the 2008 Austin City Limits "The Sound and the Jury" competition.

Scott McCurry & Mercenaries
Scott McCurry and his band are an electrifying lineup that have embodied and present the rock n' roll spirit to a new generation... a throwback of sorts to the glory days of '80s college radio, McCurry and band present their funky grooves, extraordinary arrangements, and energetic live shows.

Bowling for Soup
Who would have thought in 1994 some boys from Wichita Falls would move to Denton and in just a few years, have nine albums? But for Bowling for Soup, work is all about having fun and their success is evidence that this band isn’t "Sorry for Partying."

Less than 10 years after they began, "Girl All the Bad Guys Want," was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2003 in the "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" category, which was the first of many landmarks for Bowling for Soup. The next year in 2004, the release of A Hangover You Don't Deserve hit the Top 40. Later in 2005, the band's remake of Modern English's "I Melt with You" was used in Disney's movie, "Sky High." This would begin several movie and television soundtracks that Bowling for Soup would be featured including "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius," "Malcolm in the Middle," "Drew Carey," Disney's "Phineas and Ferb," and "Freaky Friday" and many others.

Scheduled for a June 2009 release, "Sorry for Partying" will be the bands tenth album and has been a true work of love. Already a fan favorite on MySpace and YouTube with song sneak peaks, the record shows it is full of fun the band is known for as well as a little glimpse of the band's more serious side. Bowling for Soup is Jaret Reddick, Erik Chandler, Chris Burney and Gary Wiseman.

Foreigner
Whether you are a "JukeBox Hero" or "Hot Blooded" during your Saturday nights on the Wii, you instantly become a rockstar everytime you hear anything from THE quintessential rock band, Foreigner.

Throughout the 70's and 80's, Foreigner was universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, racking up scores of smash hits, multi-platinum albums, and sold out concert tours. From "Cold As Ice" to "Hot Blooded," "Urgent" to "Jukebox Hero," "Waiting For A Girl Like You" to the chart topper "I Want To Know What Love is," Foreigner's thrilling mix of blustery blues and impeccably crafted pop continues to captivate generation after generation of music fans.

The band began in 1976 and released their first hit record which included the appropriately titled-hit, "It Feels Like the First Time." Throughout its history, Foreigner has warp into several different versions of itself with more than 20 different band members while producing several multi-platinum albums including "Head Games" and "Agent Provocateur."

Today, 30 years later, Foreigner is an ensemble of talented musicians each adding their individual credentials to the mix to make the band stronger and more powerful than ever.

BUD LIGHT MAIN STAGE - SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2009

Blue Condition
Formed in 2005, Blue Condition's music ranges in style from the contemplative emotional state to the fist-in-the-air rock anthem. Blue Condition defies genre sound and transforms blues and alternative rock with powerful, soulful vocals. The composition echoes the work of Robert Johnson, Zeppelin, Chris Whitley, The Eagles, Free, & The Black Crowes. Performing poetic vocals, harmonizing and slide guitar, powerful drum beats with rythmatic emotion telling the story of Blue Condition.

Tom Braxton
Saxophonist Tom Braxton is a versatile instrumentalist, a charismatic performer, and a gifted composer whose distinct, melodic sound thrills audiences of all ages and leaves them wanting more. His crisp, lyrical melodies and tantalizing grooves blend elements of jazz, Latin, funk, and R&B to create a sound that is innovative and appealing. After one of his electrifying concerts, you'll still be humming the melodies and snapping your fingers all the way to the parking lot.

Eleisha Eagle
Pianist/singer/songwriter Eleisha Eagle started her music career in Nashville, TN where in just three short years, the former nanny and waitress created a body of good work while booking her own solo tours across the United States, and ended up in Los Angeles. Eagle's recording studio blurb describes her music as what you get when you let "Ben Folds [eat] a Fiona Apple and [give] birth to a show tune about a postmodern Catholic school girl."

Texas Gypsies
Performance made possible by a grant from Texas Commission on the Arts &
The National Endowment for the Arts

Imagine you're in a quaint Parisian cafe listening to a delightful acoustic jazz combo. The air is filled with songs, some familiar, some exotic and intriguing. You're caught up in the music as virtuoso guitar riffs complement beautiful violin melodies. The rhythm guitarist is strumming his guitar with fiery abandon while the bassist slaps a rhythm that your feet can't resist. As you head for the dance floor, you notice a Shiner beer bottle - suddenly you realize that this isn't Paris, France, it's Paris, Texas, and you're listening to The Texas Gypsies!

The Texas Gypsies have an eclectic sound, combining Gypsy jazz with Western swing, as well as our own unique take on pop and jazz standards, with a look evocative of the '30s and '40s. The group features two guitars, violin and bass, but can add drums and a horn section for an even bigger sound. The music is at once earthy and sophisticated, appealing to a wide audience. This isn't music for jazz purists - this music makes you feel alive.
